Home, Home, Home

Sorry about all the long awaited anticipation of announcing Michael's return home. He got home late last week and needed some time to adjust to the surroundings. He is very fatigued but tolerating his first round of chemo very well. Mild nausea, no vomiting and still has an appetite. The entire family has been working on getting into a daily routine that works for everyone including the kids. He still has daily antibiotics that need to be given and too many tubes and drains. He will be returning in two weeks back out to Mayo for more tests and more chemo. He promises he will be on the blog soon. I have been overwhelmed both a work and home and will try and get caught up on pictures for the blog soon. My family and patients come first. Incredible friends have been taking good care of us and treating us to great meals and companionship (although I must say most of the male company has been "without hair", so they fit right in).

Lots of Love to All,
Dawn & Kids

Glad to hear that you're home and things are going well! I would love to send some cookies up your way, I'm sure you don't get too much time to bake! Any requests? I make a mean monster cookie! Just let me know if it sounds like something you wouldn't mind.
Keeping you all in my prayers! Take care.

Hello Vinicki Family! God has blessed you all for being such a strong family! There will be good days ahead and bad days ahead. But remember you are all together right now in your own home being with each other. So treasure that time and God will know that you all need to be together FOREVER!

With all my love and prayers,

Michael,

Glad to hear that you have made it home. How nice is it to sleep in your own bed? I am sure you are enjoying being in the midst of your family again!!!

Joke for you today...

Two robins were lying on their backs, basking in the sun. A
mama cat and her kitten were walking by.

The kitten complained, "Mama, I'm sooo hungry, what can we
eat?"

To which the mama cat, spying the two robins, replied, "How
about some Baskin Robbins?"

Wishing you a wonderful day filled with warm Northern Michigan sunshine on your face. You are being thought of today...

Hugs,
Heidi (Hella)

So you've returned home to your own bed. Fantastic! The most important question is: how is your pedicure coming along?? You might need a touch up.

I know you will be suprised when I tell you that it's raining here in the West of Ireland. God, what I wouldn't give to be back in Portugal with the sun and beers that only cost one Euro! Oh well!

I returned to Galway this morning from County Mayo where my boyfriend lives. He's 1/2 half farmer and 1/2 half computer programmer. He's joining me in Galway in a few weeks to do a Master's. He says we will have to live on turnips and potatoes because we will be poor starving students.

OK, bye for now!! xxx, Shelley Troupe
PS I forgot to mention that Dave Jansen set up a group on FaceBook for the GHS Class of 86. Anybody who reads this should join up. It's free and much easier to use than classmates.com. 25 year reunion anyone???

Michael,

I'm sure home feels pretty good! I'm glad to hear you're finally getting with the program and getting rid of some hair. It was way too pretty anyhow. I'm a firm believer in being aerodynamic - I'm working on short hair and trying to become perfectly round to totally eliminate wind resistance! Anyhow, I'm glad to hear things are progressing positively again. You work on getting your strength back. I expect to see you win that bid calling contest this year! Stay strong Michael!!!!

Michael,

Hope you are enjoying the Olympics as much as the rest of the world and my household!!!! I think my neighbors have heard me screaming for Michael Phelps every night. We are very much a USA swimming family here, and we are glued to every swimming event that they are broadcasting. Did you see the opening ceremony? Wow...

A swimming joke for you...(my boys think this a hoot...)

Why did the swimmer fly out of the water?

He was doing the butter-fly!

Constantly in my thoughts...

Hi Mike and family,

Just wanted to add my voice of support for you to the many who have already chimed in. Heard about everything and your website here from Facebook where we have a little GHS 1986 group we just started up. You guys should join it when you get a chance. http://www.facebook.com If you do, just register and search on my name, add me as a friend and then I'll add you guys to the group.

I'm actually up in Traverse City right now so I've been thinking a lot about the "old" days. Ugh old...just turned 40 too. Weeee.

Well take care and I'll stay in touch.

Hey, Michael, it was great seeing you this week. Your energy was amazing to me and your attitude was terrific; very positive. I enjoyed seeing the kids and how they interacted with you and Dawn. They seem to be weathering this "storm" pretty well. I was especially glad to see that you still have or at least got your appetite back! Sooner or later those calories will kick in. Anyway, I hope I can visit again and if you need me to go to Mayo or anywhere else, please call me. This is not an idle offer. I really mean it. I also know there are lots of other friends out there that feel the same way. Sometimes we just don't know what to say or do. We are all learning. I hope the chemo and appontments go well this week. I will be praying that the previous treatment was successful and that you tolerate the next bout without too much agony. Please call anytime and keep me posted. I really do want to help.

Can you say CHOCOLATE? Hey buddy! Hope all is going well for you... So, are you still laughing at all the shaved athletes in the Olympic games? Ya have to find the humor in every situation...and if it just presents itself, you have to go for the gold! Giggles that is. Watching the guys beach volleyball and trying to proof the magazine right now for the printer...I'm not succeeding...on the magazine that is.

Hey, I think it's about time for a brownie delivery. Should be in your part of the world this week or next...so the question is...Nuts or no nuts? (Matt should have a HAY DAY with that one:).

Let me know!

Michael-

The question Tricia should be asking- With, or without the Nausea Medication (as sanctioned by the state of CA LOL)!?!

I think everyone that knows you knows the above is VERY "tongue in cheek"!

Hope this finds you well, and ready to do battle with the next round of Chemo! 'Til the next blog post, take care.

Dawn: How is Michael doing? Has he had any appointments yet? I am anxious to hear. Did his folks go with him? I would love to hear news. I am so hopeful that everything is positive and that the Chemo is working. Hoping to hear soon.

Hi Mike,

Just read the latest. Sorry we have not contributed much lately. Myself, Sheila, Scott and all at Barliant are following your progress.

Sounds like it's hell but working. We are all keeping you in our prayers for a steady recovery.

Been very busy. Myself, Sheila, my daughter Kris and son Keith and his wife Christine ran a marathon in Madagascar in July. It was a long hard but fun and education adventure. Was at work for a week and went to Sturgis. Put almost 3,000 miles on my bike. Rear end was sore but what a great time.

Will keep watching the blog for pictures and continued good news.

Take care and God Bless!

OK, so I'm a bit behind on all of this news... I was never good at "current events" in school anyway. I feel terrible that I didn't know sooner. Thank goodness for all of our friends on Facebook or else I'd still be in the dark.

Mike and Dawn, I still live in the area and would love to visit with you when you return. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

michael: I talked with your dad at mass and was really happy to hear about most of your news from Mayo. I am glad Dawn and the kids went with you this trip. I am sure it will be much more difficult for all of the family to go once school starts. Were the test really hard and exhausting? I am so sorry you all have to go through this in your lives right now. The positives your dad talked about were really wonderful. I want to keep hearing really good news like that. I'm sure the trip was exhausting but if you want some company, please give me a call and I will stop by for a visit. Take care. hugs. jan
